The seller was a trust tied to Suzy Welch, the business commentator and widow of the former General Electric chief executive Jack Welch, who had acquired the property in 2021 for the same $23 million. Deborah Grubman of Corcoran held the listing. The buyer took title as LECA LLC.
The house came to market in November at $26 million and closed three million beneath that figure, returning the seller to her basis before costs. Double-width townhouses on the Upper East Side, at roughly forty feet of frontage, constitute a small and closely watched category. Their pricing tends to move independently of the surrounding co-operative market.
A flat five-year hold at this level is itself a data point. It sits alongside the $45 million Upper West Side record recorded ten days earlier, in which the sellers closed $40 million below their last asking price.
